SYNCING
Returning to Centre in everyday Life
Last night, composing a complicated mix to record, I found myself in a cavernous cacophony of sound ~
four tracks running, echoes looping, filters folding in on each other.
Combined with the Surreal and Daoist inspired cover art that seems to be The Way for the artists of the genres I play, I could feel my synapses starting to glitch.
So I took off my headphones and pulled up my own quiet image (red leaves, white ground, the space in between), with a conscious intent to recalibrate my own BPM before reattempting to rearrange the BPM of my tracks.
Aligning Action with Being ~ the power of the pause
syncing (verb) — to synchronize; to operate in unison
In choosing to pause - I listened to the whispers within. I tuned back into Being.
Being is always here for all of us.
It is Sat (Truth), Chit (Inner Gnosis), Ananda (Bliss - no further elaboration on the bliss bit for this post, it’s about Balance…).
It is the signals (not words) from our finely tuned, impeccably nuanced autonomic nervous sytem that are always speaking through our body. We just need to quiet our thoughts, slow down and listen.
By pressing the pause button (quite literally), shifting my gaze away from the seemingly chaotic musical mess, and embracing instead the sound of silence ~ Sympathetic Surge became Parasympathetic Flow..
This is Wu Wei - when awareness, thought, and movement flow together without strain.
In Neuroscience terminology, it is whole-brain and body integration and heart-brain coherence.
When the mind stops forcing, the system syncs itself.
And 10 minutes later I was Back on Purpose and In the Mix - but with Presence
As studies from the HeartMath Institute and Stanford neuroscientist Andrew Huberman show, hemispheric synchrony increases focus, creativity, and calm.
A short ‘Pointless Presencing Practice’ from The Stillpoint :
Zoning Out to Zone Within & Relocate your Centre
Start becoming aware of how your body is communicating with you by taking a 5-10 minute pause every 2 hours or when feeling off centre.
It might feel like force at first but it will soon become flow.
You can choose to either focus on any meaningless picture - like mine in the image above. Or you can rest your hands in your lap and soften your gaze or close your eyes.
For the next few minutes - give yourself permission to zone out.
If thoughts come up, let them float away and come back to your picture or your hands in your lap.
This is your time to just Be
Nothing to do, nowhere to go
Just This
Allow yourself to rest in this spacious awareness for as long as you need
